ALL ABOUT LAPAROSCOPY

Updated: Sep 2

So, you’ve been told that you need a laparoscopy? Dr. Amrita Kesari is a skilled minimally invasive surgeon who handles a large number of complex cases on a regular basis in Navi Mumbai. Please read the information below to learn more about laparoscopy.

WHAT IS LAPAROSCOPY?

Laparoscopy is a surgical procedure that is used to examine the inside of the abdomen and pelvis. In gynecology, laparoscopy is often used to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the female reproductive system, such as endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and ovarian cysts.

During a laparoscopy, the surgeon makes a small incision in the abdomen and inserts a laparoscope (a thin, lighted tube with a camera on the end) through the incision. The laparoscope allows the surgeon to see the inside of the abdomen and pelvis and to perform surgery, if necessary. Other specialized instruments may also be inserted through the incision to assist with the surgery.

Laparoscopy is generally less invasive than traditional open surgery and may result in less pain, scarring, and recovery time for the patient. However, like any surgical procedure, laparoscopy carries certain risks and complications, such as infection and bleeding.

If you are scheduled to undergo a laparoscopy, it’s important to discuss the procedure in detail with your surgeon, including the potential benefits and risks, as well as any instructions you should follow before and after the surgery.
